Best Bartender Competition

The purpose of this year's competition is to identify the best bartender through several necessary skills that a modern professional bartender must possess. The best bartender will demonstrate skills including, but not limited to: mastery of a spirit, timely submissions, presentation skills, media/ collaboration skills, and volume batching.



  1. Competitor must be currently working as a bartender in an Atlanta area restaurant, nightclub, hotel or bar
  2. No registration fees to enter


  1. Entries must be a minimum of 3 oz. liquid volume and must be in the form of a long or short drink.  Shots will not be accepted.
  2. Recipes entered must be the original creation of the competitor.
  3. Recipes entered must be expressed in ounces, dashes and/or drops.
  4. Recipes should contain at least two but not more than four alcoholic ingredients. The sponsor's spirit, Bullet Bourbon, must be used in a minimum quantity of half an ounce.  Other spirit used may not exceed one and a half ounces. Other modifying spirits/liqueurs may be utilized as a flavoring modifier to the Bulleit Bourbon keeping in mind that the completed cocktail should feature Bulleit Bourbon as a recognizable flavor component.
  5. Drinks must not contain more than eight ingredients, including fruit juices, syrups, drops, dashes. The components of the garnish, regardless of placement in or on the drink shall each count as one ingredient.
  6. Use of self-made ingredients other than standard, single-flavored simple syrups is prohibited. All ingredients must be reasonably available nationally.


  1. Use of manufactured garnishes will not be allowed, except for straws and toothpicks.  All garnishes must be edible and prepared on site.
  2. Fruit for garnishes may be peeled in advance, but not sliced, wedged or pre-cut in any other way for the judged presentation but must be pre-prepped for batched cocktail service.


  1. By entering this competition, competitors agree to assign copyright of their recipe and drink name to Taste of Atlanta.
  2. Competitors and drinks presented during the competition will be photographed (still and video) by Taste of Atlanta and copyright of these images for any use to include advertising and will be retained by Taste of Atlanta.

Drink Names

  1. Drink names must be appropriate for a family festival - additionally words associated with narcotics or motor vehicles are prohibited.


Submitted recipes will be made to the best possible ability by past winners and then judged for presentability, flavor, and creativity.

  1. The judges reserve the right to have the final decision on any matter relating to the judging of the competition.
  2. Competitor's entries will be judged on the following 100-point criteria:
    • Name of Cocktail - 10 points
    • Originality - 20 points
    • Taste / Balance - 20 points
    • Skillful use of Bulleit Bourbon - 50 points

    The four finalists will be notified no later than October 6, 2019. The four finalists will then present cocktails at Mission + Market on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 for the Taste of Atlanta Bartender Celebration party (+2 guests for finalists), where they will be judged by a panel that will include past winners from Taste of Atlanta. These 4 bartenders are also expected to participate at Taste of Atlanta's VIP Tasting Experience on Saturday and Sunday, October 19 and 20, 2019 from 11am-3pm at Historic Fourth Ward Park.

All Finalists will take part in a collaboration stage demo with a local chef. Taste of Atlanta will put the bartender and the chef in contact shortly after the 4 finalists have been announced. Advance payment of 150 dollars along with plastic cups will be provided to defray the costs for samples. This money will be used for the Mission + Market party as well as for the VIP service of the Bulleit cocktail.

addition to the exposure above, the 4 Winners receive PR editorial in Bite of News TOA E-Newsletter sent to 70,000 subscribers and press releases sent to local, regional and national media (press release, photos and video) and social media, along with other TBD coverage of the finalists.

Best Bartender Champion - The 2019 Taste of Atlanta Best Bartender Champion will be announced at Taste of Atlanta on Sunday afternoon after the judges have scored the chef demos, the Mission + Market presentations and bartender's ability to successfully batch the original Bulleit cocktail.
